Pipe Major David Scott Michael McElhiney was born in Peoria, Ill. his calling to play the bagpipes was one desire he carried most all of his life. It wasn't until he met a Piper named Michel Frances Patrick McGuire that his dream was off to a start. Dave was told by his teacher that the pipes were becoming a lost art and for the instruction he would pass on the same his teacher gave him. "You must pass on your piping to at least three other pipers when you become good enough to instruct."
A dozen years later Dave has more than fulfilled his instructor's wishes. Dave has taught over 25 men, women and children how to play the bagpipes, as well as helped to form Wyoming's first Pipe and Drum Band. Dave has past on a tradition, which he is happy to say three generations later is no longer a lost art but on a strong come back.
Pipers of this Band now perform in competitions form Gillette to as far as Estes Park, Colorado paying great honors to those pipers who came before them.
Dave was on the first Board of Directors for the Wyoming Celtic Festival's first games in Gillette, Wyoming, Highland games which are still a part of Wyoming each year in June. Setting the Band on the road to Highland Games in Sturgis, South Dakota as well as Rapid City, SD.
So with enough said, we close with this, Dave: "You'll live forever, When the Pipers Play".
